GRUB isn't really a bootloader so much as it is an extension of the PC
BIOS to make it resemble fully-featured monitors that are found on
more advanced machines.

SPARC machines (among others) have FORTH interpreters built into their
BIOS.  What is unusual about a BIOS that has a builtin Scheme
interpreter?

GRUB is already 34k of protected-mode code.  Adding a Scheme
interpreter would cost some space, but would also simplify and reduce
the existing script-parsing code.
