Hm. It works for me.  I put this in in foo.scm:

(define (xxx x) (list "x" x 'x))

and then did:

  public static void main(String args[])
  {
    Scheme interp = new Scheme();
    String initfile = "/home/bothner/foo.scm";
    interp.eval("(load \"" + initfile + "\")");
    interp.eval("(display (xxx 10))(newline)");
  }

When I ran it, the following was printed:

(x 10 x)

Are you using a recent snapshot?
