Some port maintainers object and I agree. I wouldn't have added the
code for i386 if the stupiest Linux users wouldn't have Intel boxes
and would create a storm of wrong bug reports. Note that no correct
program can break because of this change.

I would rather suggest to find the broken programs and fix them. This
is the much better solution.
