I don't think it is proper to require that other sources be recompiled
between 2.0 and 2.1; that is part of binary compatibility.
Why can't ld look for popen@@GLIBC_2.0 in libc? We can provide it in the
static library too, to preserve link-time binary compatibility with
binaries compiled against 2.0.x.
