Confused by mailing list title (meta-question)

This mailing list, ``libc-alpha'', seems to be the general list for GNU
libc questions. However, the `alpha' in the title confuses me -- the
list is not limited to discussion of alpha releases, and it certainly has
nothing to do with alpha CPUs.

So, what's the deal? Does -alpha mean something else, or is it perhaps a
holdover from when the only the `Linux' libc was considered non-alpha?
