If say install is linked against -lpthread (which sometimes is so that it
can use the POSIX clock functions), then you must do the links in one
install invocation, so I'd say the recommendation should be

1) use a pkg management tool
2) they can copy the libraries to the right directories, but with different
   names, then use sln
3) do it all in sash
4) they can use some file-manager program, like mc, which stays around and
   so they can do all the copying/moving/linking from one program invocation
