libthread_db td_ta_call() is failing?

Hi,
We use libthread_db in one of our tool to get threads
list. But td_ta_call() is failing because nptl_version
symbol has been removed or stripped out from pthread
library.
Questions?
1. Where can I get a unstripped version of pthread
library?
2. Is there any other work around for this problem?
3. What does gdb do get the thread lists?
