The port is an add-on but it does require changes in the main source
tree: specifically, those files for which I have provided patches.

Syllable is a platform port, not a hardware port. configure will not
even attempt to start configuring the add-on without these patches, as
some parts of the configuration are outside the scope of the add-on port
mechanism.

A patch to recognise Syllable in abi-tags was accepted just under two
years ago. The patches for configure.in & shlib-versions simply
completes the non-add-on patcheset for Syllable.
