Do you mean to say that a comma should be used to 
make the example a parenthetical expression?

... notation, e.g. 2000-2011, ...

Or that you want American English style comma 
after the abbreviation?

... notation e.g., 2000-2011, ...

OK to checkin with the appropriate change?
