It was of questionable usefulness for 2.1 and I think we can argue that with 2.2 people should have updated their programs. Anybody disagree? No, please remove it. I'm still thinking of re-writing utmpd. Its purpose would no longer be compatibility with libc5, but enabling non-suid programs to manipulate their own utmp entries. But this would probably need to be a complete rewrite, so removing the current code wouldn't be a problem at all (and the old code would still be in the CVS repository). You might want to leave in the hooks for utmpd in the library code, or at least the framework that makes it possible to add other backends. Mark
