One problem which got introduced with the thread-safe resolver is that
we now have thread-local _res variables.  Programs which expect in
multi-threaded programs to find a correctly initialized _res variable
in a newly created thread (since the parent thread has it correct)
will break.

Somebody should think about this and if no reasonable solution can be
found, write something up that we can put in the manual to explain this.
