porting newlib

I am attempting to port newlib to a hobby os in hopes of using it as the
general c library. I have been following Bill Gatliff's instructions,
however I find them not necessarily complete. I was wondering if someone
here could give me more insight into what files need to be changed (most
importantly ASIDE from the syscalls dir), and how I can change a few files
to make it an automated process, not hacked, in the hopes that future builds
can go a lot smoother. Thanks a lot!
