Hello,There are no plans to do this. Current UTF-8 support is the "C-UTF-8" locale which supports UTF-8 in the mbtowc/wctomb functions and by extension, the I/O printf/scanf family which uses these functions.
I am an old time cygwin user, and after investigating why cygwin's support of utf-8 in many applications failed, I found out that it only supported C locales and a few C variants because newlib only supports these.
I was wondering if there was any hope to at least see utf-8 locale support added(which would make
a lot of sense) to newlib.
