OK. Since I complained about poor feedback on this list, here is some quick
feedback from me:

1. Nice job. It fixed display not only of the flags, but of all the new gif
image files. Now you can play Lord of the Rings on xtconq and actually see
the units! Remains to be fixed: the terrain, which is still drawn in single
color instead of using the terrain images.

2. I did not have much luck with testing the xtconq network game:

When I try to join a game started by a mac or tcltk host either on the
loopback address or on a local network address it just gives me "Could not
open remote device".

When I tried to host a game without Independent units (flattops.g) I got a
segfault in main (xtconq.c:133). I believe I know the reason for this. The
player assignment code was partially rewritten two years ago, and the
Independent side is now handled in a different way. The xtconq startup code
was probably not updated. This should be easy to fix by looking at the
corresponding tcltk or mac code.

When I tried to host a game with Independent units (standard.g) it stops
after the "Take over the world ..." message. The display never comes up. A
second copy of the game (xtconq, tcltk or mac) is unable to connect to this
host.

Is there some special trick involved here? What precise args are you giving
on the command line? Playing network games works fine with the tcltk
version, so I know it's not a configuration problem.

Another question is if using the xtconq interface really solves the sync
problem, which I doubt. It is still the same kernel network code that is
being used. Did you get any sync errors? have you tested it between two
machines yet? When I run two copies of the tcltk version on the same
machine I never see these sync errors. That's why they have been so
difficult to debug.

3. Other stuff. The xtconq setup dialog (invoked by -x) doesn't work any
more. You can pick and set up a game, but when you hit the "OK" button the
program just beeps at you.
