Right, In fact, the entire capture code needs to be reworked and made to
stand on its own feet. Most of it is really hacks added to other pieces of
combat code. I always found the difference between capture-by-capture
(explicit capture) and capture-by-attack confusing. And the AI shares my
confusion :-).

Of course, it's hard to get around capture and attacks being linked in some
ways as long as we have capture-by-attack, which is actually the most
important kind of capture in most games.
