What's the problem? This should work:
<xsl:template match="/">
<!-- this is all you should need; put this somewhere in tutorial.xsl -->
<xsl:apply-templates select="/StageList/Stage/AuthorList/Author"/>
</xsl:template>
<xsl:template match="Author">

</xsl:template>
