So close. Instead of <xsl:apply-templates/>,
which is the same as <xsl:apply-templates select="node()"/>
and is the same as <xsl:apply-templates select="child::node()"/>,
you need to use <xsl:apply-templates select="node()|@*"/>.
This is in the XSLT spec under Copying (xsl:copy)
