That would be convenient but unrelated to what I want to achieve with this
discussion. Anyway I can prepare a patch for that.

For rpm based distributions there is a tool called debugedit available in
rpm. It was aimed to rewrite the paths in the line number program. Now it is
also recomputing the build id because the line number program changes. I don't
think that this is strictly necessary but I wanted to bring this up and
discuss the way how the checksum is computed in general.
