Hi,

This is one of the many reasons I like BASH so much. In this case I 
prefer the $( ... ) syntax in place of the back-quote 
semi-equivalent. I say "semi-equivalent" because unlike back-quote, 
the $( ) construct nests.

Another BASH favorite of mine is $' ... ', a quoted string in which 
backslash escapes are substituted.
