LANG=1033

I just did a fresh install on a WinXP SP2 system. After PostgreSQL refused to run 'initdb' with some error like "1033 is an invalid parameter", I noticed that it has LANG=1033 in the environment. I checked several other Cygwin installations and none of them even have a LANG variable.

Doing 'export LANG=' allowed initdb to run, but I'm wondering how I got this LANG variable and if I should get rid of it? And where to get rid of it?

Any help appreciated,
Michael Hipp
