Don't do this *yet*. a) there is no urgency in doing so, b) setup can't help at this point, and using ncurses as a reference point, it could have been worse, and ncurses has _no_ knobs to twiddle and get wrong, which tex* does AFAIK. setup will be able to help, probably the release-after-next.
