unattended mode/command switches to setup

I would dearly love to see setup able to be run fully from the command line.
In the process of determining how to use the tools in libgetopt++ to do this,
I came across this in the archives:

None of these patches seem to have made it to HEAD though.
I don't want to reinvent what someone has already done; are these patches
going to be incorporated?
