cygport get selected GH repo directories

Hi folks,

Looking at NMU update of noto-emoji-fonts to Unicode 18 now having to download 2 
raw
GH/google/fonts/main ofl/noto{,color}emoji repo directories and contents (single 
font file each with 4 duplicate named files each) rather than the ~GB zip or the 
bigger git repo.

The google fonts web page supports manual opaque download of a font zip of 
limited files from selected fonts directories from their GH repos.

Any tested solutions for selective downloading or otherwise handling small 
directory selections from huge repos, with just objects taking ~0.5GB, other 
than very specific processes to produce limited, no-checkout, shallow depth, 
sparse clones with only selected paths?

Or just generate URI lists to download the bunch of available files with 
separately prefixed, named, and versioned filename fragments?
