Weird problem with relative symbolic links

I think I've fixed this problem.

It's ok to report them here but I prefer that people in this mailing list
make some attempt, at least at tracking down and potentially fixing the
bug.

Sorry for the delay in responding.  This came in around the time that I
was on vacation and I missed it.
