gdb with multiple threads

Is anyone successfully using gdb to debug multithreaded programs.
I have found this problematic.  'info threads' shows nothing.
If the running program crashes, the resultant backtrace seems to
be random.  The 'watch' feature does not work.
   These are few of the problems I have had.
