Beta 18 breaks gettimeofday

I have just upgraded to beta 18 and was rebuilding an application and had
some troubles.. after tracking things down it seems to be a problem with
the gettimeofday() call.. sample code follows:

#include <stdio.h>
#include <stdlib.h>
#include <time.h>
#include <sys/time.h>
#include <errno.h>

int main()
{
  struct timeval *tvp;
  struct timeval  tv;

  tvp = &tv;

  if(gettimeofday(tvp, NULL) != 0){
    printf("\n failed \n error was : %s\n", strerror(errno));
  } else {
    printf("\n worked \n tv_sec is : %i\n tv_usec is : %i",
           tv.tv_sec, tv.tv_usec);
  }
  return(0);
}

this code works on freebsd, and other gettimeofday calls used to work on B17.1

any ideas?

		thanks
			Jonathan
