egcs and emacs and errors

egcs on cygwin-b20 is producing error messages with \\ where there should
be \.  For example:

C:\tmp>gcc -I\tmp -c foo.C
In file included from foo.C:1:
\\tmp\\foo.H:1: parse error before `<'

This breaks emacs 19.34.6 error parsing - to the extent of causing a signal
in emacs (which is of course an emacs bug!).

Shouldn't the strings have single \.

(Note - this sample output is cut from a dos command window running gcc
directly - there is no emacs processing involved).
