What would a symbolic link, such as `ln -s //d/user /user' do for you?

Also, try changing the HOME environment variable to //d/Users/Mecklen
and see if that might help the problem.

Beyond that you may have to wait for b20 (due out soon) and see if it
is better or worse than before.

Such a restrictive set of rules. ;^)  It may be your only alternative.
