vi Permission Denied problems

Here's how my environment looks:
> pwd
/home/nyap
> ls -ld .bash
drwxr-xr-x 1 nyap Administ 0 Jul 13 12:39 .bash/
> ls .-l bash
-rw-r--r-- 1 nyap Administ 0 Jul 13 09:43 .bash_set
> mount
Device Directory Type Flags
C:\bin /usr/bin user binmode
C:\lib /usr/lib user binmode
C: / user binmode
h: /home/nyap user binmode

The output of 'cygcheck -s -v -r' is enclosed. It's interesting to note that
'cygcheck -s -v -r >tmp/cygcheck.out' got a 'No such host or network path'
error.

Here's what happens:
> vi .bash/.bash_set
# vi is unable to open the file due to a "Permission Denied" problem
> vi ./.bash/.bash_set
# same problem
> vi ~/.bash/.bash_set
# this works perfectly

Anyone have any idea as to what's going on?

Thanks,
Noel
