how to build -mno-cygwin zlib dll?

That would be too easy. Actually, I want to build a version with the [56]86 ASM optimizations, thus the need to re-compile. Works fine as a cygwin-native build, using the cygwin-ported source. But, how to remove the cygwin dll dependencies is not obvious to me.
