CygWin file access puzzle

Hi All...

I just installed cygwin on an nt4.0 sp6 box. When I run a bash shell,

ls C:

works fine, but

ls /cygdrive/c

says

ls: /cygdrive/c: No such file or directory

with similar behavior for cd or executing other cygwin and non-cygwin 
programs.  I have attached a

cygcheck -s

output. So what did I do wrong?
