possible GCC bug

I performed the same command and got this on a different machine (AMD Athlon
1.33GHz, 1GB RAM server machine at my university!)

Now bear in mind that if this machine had a hardware fault simeone would
know... afterall, it has been running non-stop for almost three (3!!) months
now without a fault serving an intranet and running all kinds of student
programs...

This is almost certainly a gcc bug...
