Wrong output with ls and german umlauts

That has nothing to do with Cygwin but is default behaviour of ls.
When output is a tty, it doesn't print only printable ASCII chars
(32 <= char <= 126). The option you're searching for is
--show-control-chars. The man page is your friend!
