Cygwin 'login' command does not work - why?

Login's purpose has been to be invoked indirectly via services/daemon (like
sshd, telnetd, etc).  It won't work from user's other than SYSTEM without
significant effort.

Right.  That's the most definitive way. ;-)  Simple or not (and I'm not
saying it's simple either).

Not at all.  It's a fair question.  I just wanted to point the way to the
"obvious" available sources of information in case you had overlooked them.
Perhaps someone else on the list will have a specific suggestion for your
problem.
