Latex installation problem

OK -- so I can now process a LaTex document etc but there are still a few
minor problems.   The  execution log shows lstat() complaining--
apparently lstat(./latex) and lstat(./mf) fail.  I am not certain what 
this means.  

Also, at some point the system complains that libICE.dll is not accessible 
on the path.  Again, I am not at all sure where this is called.
