I have no name

I have just installed cygwin.  When I
run the window, the $ prompt is always
preceded by the line

    I have no name!@<name of computer>

What is causing this? and how do I
get rid of it?

I have defined USER in /etc/profile, but
that doesn't seem to have any effect.
