If I might lob a grenade into the frey,
how about using Connectiva's port of apt to support the
rpm format?  That'd be able to handle LSB packages.
And yes, I'd like to see Cygwin become LSB compliant.
'Course, we'd need to write a subprofile of LSB for
systems that use the PE executable format.
