I'm running the attached sh script from WinXP "Scheduled Tasks" and see
that curl launch defunct sh (or bash if used instead of sh).
curl can be replace by : ls, ... to see the same problem.

Command in the task sheduler (Same effect from the run program dialog) :
D:\cygwin\bin\bash.exe -c "/cygdrive/d/DATA/divers/mcafee_dat_update.sh"

THEN CURL RUNS :
$ procps -ef
UID PID PPID C STIME TTY TIME CMD
pto       2624     1  0 14:29 ?        00:00:00 /usr/bin/bash --login -i
pto       2556     1  1 14:53 ?        00:00:00 <defunct>
pto       1884  2556  6 14:53 ?        00:00:00 curl -l
ftp://ftp.mcafee.com/pu

pto       2224  2624  1 14:53 ?        00:00:00 procps -ef

AFTER CURL RUNS :
$ procps -ef
UID PID PPID C STIME TTY TIME CMD
pto       2624     1  0 14:29 ?        00:00:00 /usr/bin/bash --login -i
pto       2556     1  0 14:53 ?        00:00:00 <defunct>
pto       3036  2624  1 14:53 ?        00:00:00 procps -ef

Each day better, thanks.
