how type characters from 0x80 to 0xff in text mode?

How can I type characters from 0x80 to 0xFF working with mc internal
editor in text mode? If I open an existing text file containing such
characters, they are correctly displayed, but I cannot type them.
(I'm working under ms windows 95.)
