Cygwin > 1.5.18-1 fails on network and removable drives

Perhaps have a look at the strace output (and compare before and after if
necessary).  Maybe <http://cygwin.com/ml/cygwin/2006-11/msg00532.html> has
some relevance, though I realize there are some significant differences.
