Cannot compile C++ files

Hi there. I seem to be having a major problem with the G++ compiler on a
Windows XP machine. I keep trying to compile a C++ file using the command
"g++ -o factorials factorials.cpp" (without the quotes) and Bash keeps
returning this:

/usr/lib/gcc/i686-pc-cygwin/3.4.4/../../../../i686-pc-cygwin/bin/as.exe:
/usr/li
b/gcc/i686-pc-cygwin/3.4.4/../../../../i686-pc-cygwin/bin/as.exe: cannot
execute
 binary file

I even tried reinstalling G++ (along with updating a quantity of components
of the Cygwin package), and I still wound up with the same error message. If
you can help explain the problem, I would [greatly] appreciate it.
