iostream with gcc

I apologize for what is probably a silly mistake on my part. I am just 
starting to use cygwin. When I tried a simple program

using namespace std;

 */

    cout << "Hello, world";

  return 0;
}

with

$ gcc hello.cc

I got the following error message
