According to Alexey Borzenkov on 12/25/2007 5:20 AM:
| Hi everyone,
|
| I wonder if nobody noticed this yet, but since Asciidoc 8.2.3 git
manpages are
| broken in regard that gitlink macro is not handled correctly, and what
you see
| when issuing git --help is a lot of [1], [2], [3], etc that are completely
| unreadable.

Oh, it's been noticed, and I have been bothered by it as well, without
knowing what to do about it. Fortunately, I also noticed this today in
the upstream news, for the upcoming git 1.5.4 release (now at rc2):

~ * Recent versions of AsciiDoc 8 has a change to break our
~ documentation; a workaround has been implemented.

Don't work too hard, make some time for fun as well!
