Crash of setup.exe uninstalling mingw-runtime

Hope this is the right list? I believe I have the latest setup.exe 
snapshot (2.573.2.3). According to cygrunsrv there are no cygwin 
services running. After running setup several times and getting the 
usual Windows XP Professional crash dialog (setup.exe has encountered a 
problem and needs to close ...), I finally started trying to find mingw 
files and remove them manually (I know, probably useless and might have 
made things worse) ... that didn't help. Same problem still happens. I'd 
settle for a manual workaround to remove mingw if anyone can suggest how.
