emacs window isn't coming up

Greetings,

I've recently been using 'emacs' with good success in Cygwin under Windows XP. However, recently when I run emacs I see that nothing happens. My X windows are working as programs like 'display' do bring up a window. Is there anything I can check to help diagnose this?
