"more reliable pipes" in 1.7

Folks:

I was just reading the 1.7 announcements:

This looks really good!  Way to go.

How can I find out more about this item:

- Reworked pipe implementation which uses overlapped IO to create  
more reliable interruptible pipes and fifos.

I have a problem with pipes (stdin/stdout in a subprocess) [1] which  
I haven't been able to narrow down into a minimal test case, and I  
would like to learn more about the changes that went into that "more  
reliable pipes".
