'git gui' does not work

Hi,

when starting 'git gui' command inside git repository, a message box saying:

error
No working directory .:
couldn't change working directory to ".": no such file of directory
<OK>

appears and after clicking OK button, the program exits.

When started 'outside', i.e. not in any git repository, usual dialog 
offering to create/clone/open repositry appears, but after selecting 
'open' and finding path to the repository, the messagebox appears again.
