FWIW, you don't need to use apt-cyg to automate an install of a certain
set of packages.  Using the '-P' parameter of 'setup.exe' to list out the
packages you want to install will work.

If you're looking for a basic overview of why rebasing is necessary in
some cases, you should read /usr/share/doc/Cygwin/rebase*.README.  This
summarizes things quite well.  If you're looking for more details, the
email archives (cygwin-apps) has allot of discussion about it in the
history.  It's a ways back though. ;-)
