Yeah, I can confirm that it does nothing.
$ touch alpha.sh bravo.sh charlie.bat delta.bat
$ echo '#!/bin/sh' > bravo.sh
$ echo : > delta.bat
$ file *
alpha.sh: empty
bravo.sh: POSIX shell script, ASCII text executable
charlie.bat: empty
delta.bat: ASCII text
