If re-installation created new SID's for you machine, than the old SID 
stored in the USB STICK file descriptors are not recognized.

Compare the output of /usr/bin/mkpasswd.exe
with a previous copy of /etc/passwd, if available

Or look with windows explorer at "properties->security" for
some of the files in the STICK
